Shot In The Arm Housing Program Update

The first $8,000 “Shot in the Arm” housing incentive check was presented to Willis Roethemeyer today at 4310 West Sweetwood Drive.  Making the presentation were Mayor Dwight Livingston, City Administrator Jim Hawks, Chamber Development Chairman Brock Wurl and Immediate Past Chairman Ty Lucas.

The 43 commitments to construct 33 single family homes and 10 duplexes were finalized in November 2015.  The goal is to construct all 43 by August 2017 in a much needed boost to the North Platte housing market.  Each of the units is eligible for the $8,000 incentive from a $344,000 incentive pool provided by the City of North Platte’s Quality Growth Fund (LB840) and the Chamber / DEVCO’s incentive fund provided by private business Chamber members in the community.  The program will actually generate 53 new living units as the duplexes will add 2 dwellings each.

The impact is expected to generate $7.5 million in new construction; $100,000 in new city sales tax; $250,000 in new real estate taxes and impact secondary payrolls, local purchasing and land sales.

Commitments made to the program have come from Ross Vogel (14), Matt Thomas / Dana Point (11), Willis Roethemeyer (5); Darren Wilkinson (5), Greg Batt (4) and Lincoln County Community Development Corporation (4).  The sites are scattered throughout the community.   Currently 19 have already been permitted.

The unique partnership has garnered statewide recognition and was featured at the recent Nebraska Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Economic Development Summit held in LaVista.
