Business Climate

With a population exceeding 36,000 within a 30-minute drive of the city—and 115,000 in the labor shed area—North Platte and Lincoln County constitute a community on the verge of big things.  Our area's location, in the middle of the country, is more insulated from the economic extremes of the east and west coasts.  Growth continues here and the atmosphere is optimistic about the future!

Regularly talking to our businesses is the best way to gain an understanding of our local business climate.  We regularly participate in the Nebraska Department of Economic Development Nebraska Business Visitation Program.  This program uses structured, 30-minute, confidential, person-to-person interviews with area businesses.  The results are aggregated, summarized and made available to the public.  We are currently working on the 2009 Business, Retention & Expansion Survey.  In the meantime, we invite you to review the 2005 BRE Survey Results.

For additional information regarding the current business climate please refer to the: 2009 Economic Development Trend Study

With a population now in excess of 24,000, North Platte continues to experience significant growth in new industry segments including: health and medical, education, retail, small manufacturing, electric supply, tourism and warehousing/distribution.  All relevant economic indicators point to the continuted growth and success of our region.  We encourage you to discover the opportunities available in our area.

Housing

When housing needs were anticipated to meet the demands of incoming new residents to our area, a Housing Study was contracted with Hanna:Keelan Associates of Lincoln, Nebraska to identify those needs.  Developers and contractors stepped up and gaps in housing were filled as a result of the study.  For a copy of that study, please click on the following link.

2005 Housing Study

The North Platte Chamber & Development is now working on an update of that study that was completed in 2005.  It is anticipated that the new study will be available in early 2010.
