New January records for NP sales tax, county lodging tax
Both of the North Platte area's state-collected local taxes have started 2026 in record territory.
The city of North Platte's combined 2% sales tax netted nearly $1.19 million in January, 4% better than 2025's previous record of just over $1.14 million.
Lincoln County's 4% lodging tax, on the other hand, shattered last year's January record by 30.4%. The Nebraska Department of Revenue returned $77,136 to the county for tourism promotion.
The state sends back net city sales tax and county hotel-motel tax proceeds about six weeks after each month ends. The Revenue Department retains a 3% administrative fee from both taxes.
Net 2025-26 lodging taxes for Lincoln County total almost $1.154 million with three months left before the county and state fiscal years close June 30. The county's all-time record of $1.277 million was set in 2023-24.
North Platte has received almost $8.09 million in sales taxes through the first half of its fiscal year. City and federal fiscal years end on Sept. 30.
